My Ride: Base model 2006 525i
I’m getting the same error message: “Transmission Malfunction - gear
can be engaged without depressing the brake. Drive Moderately!”
Major difference though is that I cannot switch my gear out of park into drive or anything else. I got that message for the first time two days again and didn’t drive it at all since. Today I got ready to drive and it won’t shift.

Did you ever figure out what caused that fault to pop up? I’m having the same exact thing happen to my 525i now

My Ride: 2010 E60 528i
In my case it was the battery registration. I had installed a new battery and paid the BMW dealer to register it, but when I connected my laptop, it showed a very old battery. I reset the battery and the problem has completely gone away.
