There's a little spring pin inside that is covered by a rubber grommet. You might want to remove the rubber cover and spray it with a little WD-40 or the like. I did.

when you can't get it to open there is a green tab in the trunk on that side that you can pull to pop it open.

do I have to open everything inside the trunk to be completely expose the metal parts, so I see the Green Tab next to the Gas Tank?

I'm not trying to sound like and @$$, but are the doors unlocked. I fought with it at the gas station until I went to open the door to get the owner's manual and the gas tank lid popped open.

Have you tried to just gently pry it open? Don't scratch or break anything, but if the spring is broken (common issue), you should be able to just "pry" open the fuel door when the car is unlocked.

Most likely, you have to replace the "BUFFER STOP WITH EJECTOR" (number 3 on the blow-up below). Replacing it is a walk in the park - all you need is a flat-head screwdriver. Be careful - as always - not to scratch any painted surfaces when removing the old one and you should be ok
(the new one just pops in)

Any dealer should have them, but bring the part number - I didn't and it took me like an hour to explain what exactly I needed (another reason not to do anything important when you're f*cked up not to self: cognac and Nyquil don't mix very well... or do they??? ) aaaaanyway... where was I? Oh, yeah, explaining what part I needed to a parts guy at my most hated dealership in the whole world (life quality BMW of Brooklyn - named like that to, no doubt, reflect the wreck of a life style you will experience if you let them do anything to your car - I don't even park mine on the same block! ) was a bit "challenging" (to say the least). AND I think they charged me something like 15 bucks for it too nevermind, did the install of the new one at the gas station a few blocks away and never regretted it - money well-spent

Sorry for sorta kanye west'ing the thread a bit
