Hey guys
I recently purchased an 08 528i. I have noticed a gas smell over the last few days. Tonight, as I cleaned the driver's side back wheel, I noticed that area was where the smell was coming from. Has anyone else had this issue??

Thanks AchtungE60. I thought that may have been the issue so I didn't fill it up all the way on my last trip to the pump. That didn't seem to be the issue. I have also tried gas from different stations thinking that one brand may have caused it but they all seem to have the same affect. One of the seals may be leaking near the tank.

Try replacing the gas tank cap. Maybe you aren't getting a good seal which is causing vapors to escape.

I had a 635 one that had a gas smell too in the rear. There was a vent system and the vent box was actually in the trunk. I think it turned out to be a check valve that was bad allowing the fumes to enter the cabin. It did seem a bit stronger in the trunk too. Not sure exactly what the E60 is using as in venting, but the tank has to be vented.
