Well you drove through the corn belt. NE and IA have some of the most aggressive ethanol programs. If you were to map out the ethanol plans in the US you may find a majority of them in these states. The 89 grade has been cheaper than 87 since I can remember. (IA grad in 98 and married a IA girl with farms in NE and IA) The ethanol content on the 89 is higher. Remember that ethanol has a higher octane rating than petrol but contains less energy but the money goes to US not over seas... I get much better gas mileage going to IA than leaving...

At a local gas station here in FL the gas price for premium(93) was 44cents, yes, the gas attendent entered it in wrong and for about an hour it was $0.44! Me and my buddy got his moms suburban and filled it up with premium for $13!!

It works the same for wheat, corn or any other product/commodity. Gasoline is no different. Sellers are happy to pass along price increases but hesitant to pass along price reductions.

Yea blame Bush.. It has nothing to do with consumption and the growth rate of countries like China and India and other factors like the Dollar. A hell it is easier to blame Bush because that is easy.

I found a huge variance in prices on my trip this weekend. In NC, 93 octane was $4.29, in Va, it was $3.89!, and on the WV turnpike, $4.59. You bet I filled up in VA to save 70 cents a gallon.
FYI, on the trip up, 420 miles at 26.5 mpg. Thats running 80 a lot and having to demonstrate the power of the 550i to a lot of slow poke left lane campers. One Pathfinder hogged the left lane going no more than 2 over for 5 miles. There was just enough traffic that it took awhile to get around. When I finally did, he speed up and tailgated me as I caught an even slower car (59 in a 70, left lane!!). I then said bye-bye and put 1/4 mile distance between us before I pulled my foot off the floor board.
