Gas Leaking from Car?
#1
Last night after I filled up my car and drove home I smelled a strong smell of gas. About an hour after I parked I went into my garage and noticed gas dripping from my car. The gas was dripping in the area near where the gas is put into the car, kind along the seem of the passenger side back door. The drip was not fast but I could watch drips forming on the underside of my car.
Anyone else ever have this problem?
I am thinking I might have simply overfilled my gas tank. The gas gauge which shows how far I could drive on a tank said 485 when I filled up. That seemed high, but I kind of figured it might have been due to recently making a long trip on the highway where I drove in 6th gear a lot and averaged over 30 mpg.
BMW picked up the car and took it to my dealership. I am waiting to hear from them right now.

When you said "The gas was dripping in the area near where the gas is put into the car". I'm assuming that it's leaking from the gas fill-up inlet. Sounds like you may have over-filled it. Hopefully, the dealer will get back to you soon and that it's nothing serious. Keep us posted.
No. I meant underneath the car. There is some black plastic covering on the underside of the car and the gas was dripping off that, but on the underside of the car not the gas inlet.

Everything is possible, but so unlikely.
If you seriously think you have a problem,
get the car to your dealer at once!

Update:
It turns out that I have a cracked gas tank. BMW is replacing it and it should be ready this afternoon. Crazy.

Seems odd - any indications of how the tank cracked in the first place?
