Function of 545i Butterfly valve in exhaust?
#1
Hello,
The right silencer endpipe of the 545i (2004 / Europe) has an active Butterfly valve.
It is placed in / just after de final resonator.
Does anybody know what is does?
Is it for noice reduction, or for smooter power?
Can it easily be put out of order?
What is the effect? Better sound?
Are the anny posible negative side effects?
Thanks

Rudy, mine doesn't have a valve. Does yours?
I didn't have the car on a hoist so maybe I just can't see it. I did use a mirror.

the short of it ...
German Noise Drive by standards...
Car can only make so many decibels up to about 45mph, then the car can be much louder.
Porches, VW ( yep the R32 has the "Flapper Valve") and many BMW and Mecs...

The US cars have it. I would think It's for noise suppression; the inner pipe opens during strong acceleration.

My 550 about same vintage as your 535 and does not have the butterfly.

Does this affect performance (Low end torque) or is this just for noise suppression at low RPM?
Thanks.
Thanks.
