I use 93 but buy it at the cheapest generic gas station that's convenient. My ex-father in law owns a chain of gas stations and says that there is absolutely no difference between name brand and generic gasolines. His tankers buy whatever is cheapest at the port that day. Sometimes it's Shell, other times, Exxon, Mobil or Hess. One thing that I never do is buy Lukoil. It seems like the Russian owned chain is the worst price gouger out there.

I'm curious to know if thats what happens... cuz I exclusively make an effort to buy from 76. So if you're going to tell me that 76 will have 76 gas in their tanks one day and Mobile the other and Shell the next and sometimes Whatever else they can get then I'll be concerned...

It's probably worth pointing out on this international forum that Americans use a MON/RON average, while most everywhere else (I think) use RON for measuring Octane. 95 RON (UK normal fuel) is equivalent of 91 in the US. "Super unleaded" in UK, which is 98 or 99 RON, would be 94 or so in USA.

Before everyone gets very confused with this discussion .

Google RON MON PON for more info if you're interested. Which you probably aren't .

I only use premium... 91 is the highest normal gas you can get in CA. and thats all I use. seriously... why save the $3-4 a tank and compromise the engine? Performance engines need premium fuel... especially a Turbo Charged engine. Sure in your case since its a rental for 10K miles you wouldnt have to worry but for me I bought the car so I plan on keeping it longer than normal people would...


This is not addressed to you bmwfan05 but rather a general statement... I really dont get people's logic. on the 25 cents you save per gallon... I always hear the "Oh you have to get Premium fuel for such and such car?" SO WHAT??? every fill up is 15 gallons ish... so $3.75 savings per tank. thats nothing... cant even get a decent starbucks coffee for that. If you cant afford that you shouldnt be driving anything better than a Civic or Corolla because you cant afford it and if you can... you can afford the extra gas $$.
