I am afraid that is not true. DOT 3 is more hydroscopic but does not have dramatic fade like DOT4 once it gets saturated with water. DOT 4 has an advantage of having a higher boiling point but it is more viscus and can cause ABS problems in some cars in the cold.

DOT5 is a silicon based fluid that is not compatible with DOT 3, DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 which are glycol based. DOT 5 is only used in show cars and show bikes where storage is more important then driving regularly.

I have to flush my brake fluid this April as indicated on my idrive.

I recommend using speed bleeders to make the work easy and the part number is SB1010 for my 07 525i.
BMW specifies DOT 4 fluid only and what makes it a little different then some of the other performance fluid is that it is of the low viscosity type which is ideal.
The price is not bad either at around $5.00 a bottle. With the speed bleeders I imagine two bottles are more then enough and remember once you break the seal on the bottle you should not use the same bottle on your next fluid flush.

Brake flush every 2-3 years is a strongly recommended maintenance. Fuel injection cleaning is a big profit item for service centers - UNLESS you have been running crap gasoline. Techron once or twice a year is all I ever need + running Sunoco ULTRA really improves drive-ability.

Agreed, there is nothing special about BMW port fuel injectors. If I wanted my injectors to cleaned then I would want pull each one out and send them to get ultrasonically cleaned and balanced.
Having injectors balanced does in fact make a difference in the idle and smoothness in the motor and I highly recommend this service for those looking for actual benefit then one that is perceived.

Anyone know what dealers charge for the bi-annual brake flush? I will be paying for my next one since out of service coverage period.

So is two bottles all I need for a full brake flush?

Anybody prefer stoptech over goodrich SS lines or vica versa?

devhan,

Do you have any insight as to where and how much it would cost to have injectors ultrasonically cleaned and balance? Have you ever had this service completed on any of your cars?

Thanks.

I did find this youtube clip regarding ultrasonic fuel injector cleaning:

The video seems to be from a UK based company:
