My Ride: 520i 2004Built Orient Blue Metallic exterior with Beige DAlota Leather interior, Xenon light added as an option.BMW star spoke alloy wheels styling 115, 7J X 16 wheels with 225/55R 16 tyres.
That's not much I can do with my driving habit in order for a more economical fuel consumption here in HK,traffic are heavy and have to stop very often.
The best fuel consumption after a month of ownership was 15.9L/100km
Can you tell me the best record (Fuel consumption)you've done in your country???

Welcome, newasia. For a better comparison of like cars, it would help if you added a description of your E60 to your profile. Thanks. BTW, I have a 545 and I think I may have eked out 28 mpg on one laid-back leg of an extended trip.

I can't actually notice that.. as I have the 530d
Mine begines to fall after about 80-100 km.
About consumption.. In the city.. 8 l/100km to 12 l/100km .. if heavy traffic.
Highway... 6.5 minimum (150 km/h).
I'm more than satisfied with this consumption.

I have the 545iA and when driving in the city only, and agressive, I get 16 L/100Km, can get 12-13 L/100Km when driving normally and the best I had was on the Autobahn 9.8 L/100Km.
I just had a week of extremely agressive and fast driving, and I am up to 22 L/100Km...
Usual it's around 13 L/100Km.

I have about 10,000 miles on my 3 month old 530i and I am averaging 24.7 MPG. I reset it every month or so to see if the MPG remains the same. I have about 60 miles of highway and 35 miles of stop and go city traffic each day. I do drive aggresively. Take off from lights in Sport mode, drive about 80-110 MPH on highway. Just taking into account the highway I usually get about 29 MPG but that is measured over small time frames, like one trip rather then my continuous monthly rolling average.

My OBC is overstating actual mileage by 4.2%. I am averaging an accumulated actual 21.42 MPG, but the OBC has a weighted 22.32 MPG, all for the first 6200 miles.

I'll check it too.. I actually never look at my fuelgauge untill the fuelsign comes up in the warningscreen with the bling blong.. In the next 5 series they will probably remove that gauge to because nobody uses it heheheehe. (just kidding)? ? ? ?

Yup, noticed that the fuel gauge is heaps more accurate than my old Mitsu. I average around 14.5 driving around the city.
Anyways, hope this info helps and welcome to the forum!!!

My Ride: MY05 545i Jet Black with Auburn interior. SMG, Logic7, Sport Package, Comfort Seats, Navigation.
I read this phenomena a while ago. The reason why a lot of fuel gauges will not move for the first 50 miles, is because the buoy inside of the tank. The buoy, once hits the ceiling of the tank, will indicate "Full" in the gauge. However, because the buoy is round shaped (some are flatter rectangular shaped), it will still have a little space for fuel after it stops moving. That extra volume is the height of the buoy above fuel level till the ceiling of the tank.
Assuming you fully fill the tank to its max, the fuel gauge will not go down until the fuel above the buoyance of the buoy is used up. That's why you'll notice that you can go 200 miles for the first half of the tank and only 100 before reserve light will come on.
The fact that E60's fuel gauge drops right away upon usage, just means that the gauge is somewhat more accurated than what you're used to see in other cars.
