Default Fuel filler cap not locking

My fuel filler cap doesn't seem to be locking when I lock the car. I thought there might be a time delay so I've locked the car, left it and returned to it a few hours later and it's still unlocked.

Any ideas what the fault could be and how to fix it?

Thanks

There's a "push-on-push-off" mechanism that pops the door open when you push it in. There's also a plastic pad on the door that makes contact with it. It's possible that the plastic pad had fallen off, the door goes in too far, and the bolt misses the hole. Long shot, but easy fix.

I checked the pad is still there. The cap closes fine it just doesn't lock. I've noticed there's supposed to be a pin that pops in to place when you lock the car for some reason the pin on mine has stopped working.

have you tried locking the car with the fuel door open to see if the pin pops out?

What awful things are going to happen if you don't fix it? It would be a real chore for anyone to syphon gas out. I suppose somebody might decide to piss in it. Good thing it didn't fail LOCKED.

Tried it with the door open and I can hear something going on but can see any pin popping out.
