My Ride: 535d Auto Sport Carbon Black, Black Dakota, Active Steering,Satnavpro, 18" Boots,Elec Sunroof, Darkwood Dashboard Trim,Media Pack (professional nav, bluetooth phone, 6 disc cd), extended voice control,visibility pack (bi-xenons, adaptive headlights),auto dimming/folding mirrors, M rear spoiler, Visibility Package (bi-xenons, adaptive headlights), and Elec Seats

Problem solved - Computer set incorrectly - now achieving 32mpg mixed driving.

Hi Everyone

Can anyone help, new 535d sport delivered Dec 04, current mileage 2995, brilliant ride in every respect other tha fuel consumption, cannot get it over 26mpg driving carefully, the book indicates I should be getting 35mpg from mixed driving.

I am advised by the dealer that it should improve as the engine loosens up, the salesman has asked that I take the car in for an inspection if the situation has not improved by 5000 miles.

Your comments would be appreciated.

I am at 9.3l/100km at the moment with pretty spirited driving...

The book says 8.0/100 average, but I doubt you could reach that unless you drive very slowly...

My Ride: 535d Sport in Carbon Black / high gloss shadow line and beige leather / dark poplar with professional nav, bluetooth phone prep, CD changer, bi-xenon adaptive headlamps, servotronic steering, folding mirrors, heated comfort seats, TV, extended voice control and Logic 7 hifi.

Did you actually measure the consumption? Or is it possible the dealer has just set the computer wrong in the opposite direction just to make you feel happier? :-)
