28 mpg on the highway at 72 mph in the summer. 22-23 mpg mix town/highway summer. 2-3 mpg less in the winter. Live in Wisconsin, US 2008 528xi I have calculated this the old fashioned way: miles driven by actual gas put in car. I use 93 octane Mobil (no ethanol)

Remember UK mileage and US mileage are different: a UK (imperial gallon is 4.5 litres and and a US gallon is 3.78 litres).

My Ride: 2006 530 XD TOURING Luxe, 231HP
Talking

BMW E60 Touring 530Xd. 17" 225 wide wheels.

Freeway, driving around 140km/hr gives between 7.2 and 7.5 liter for 100km.
Freeway in Germany at 200/240kmh/hrs: 9.8 liters /100km
General usage, on long duration without reseting the computer, I always end up at 8.2l/100km
Town only, short distances , al lot of cold engine drive: can go up to 11l/100km.

And to convert one unit to the other:
Convert MPG imperial to US to l/100km

Salut.

17 mpg during commute. Mid to upper 20's on interstates. Only 2500 mi so I still consider it to be in the break in stage. Changing oil and filter soon and that usually ups mileage 1-2 mpg after break in.

I'm surprised at the great fuel economy of the 530xi. It is identical to the manual transmission E39 530i we have - despite being AWD and more power.
Drove from BOS -> NYC and trip computer reported 29.1 MPG at average speed of 72.1 mph.

Went from Canfield, OH to Bronx, NY (410 miles) & my '05 530i got 29 mpg with going no faster than 80mph; I thought that was pretty good.

I'm hoping to trade in a year or two down the line, but if the gas mileage doesn't improve on the future BMWs, I might not.

I typically only drive 15 miles per day (I live real close to work, luckily) -- lately I have been averaging around 15 mpg....however I do tend to punch it when entering and leaving the expressway. :-0

I did a 500 mile R/T this week--220 highway down, 50 city-ish (no snarls--and some 40 mph zones) while there, 220 back. I got 30.1 on the way there, and after the 50 city, the average dropped to 25.5. I got 29.7 on the way back. I generally seem to get about 19 in town.

I'm also happy with my LCI 520dA, today I filled 58 liters of diesel, trip meter showed 1009 kilometeres (=5.74 l/100km)., IDrive stated 5,6 liters/100 km.
I have now driven summer holiday trips, about 30% motorway (130 km/h), 50% 90km/h and 20% in town/city.
