535d M Sport

iDrive says 34.4mpg (Imperial) over 9,000 miles 60/40 motorway and town/hills. Cruise on the motorway, get stuck in town and boot it in the hills (what the torque is for )

Never tried actually calculating the mpg, i'll give it a try.

I have always believed that the #2 thing guys lie about is their gas (oline) mileage. The #1 thing is the size of certain body parts. I guess that can apply to the ladies also. But I never heard a girl lie about her mileage.

That's a great comment...

BTW folks - I had no idea the trip computer was that optimistic - I can see a few percentage discrepancies but a whopping 20 or 30% gap as some of you believe?

I'm surprised at the great fuel economy of the 530xi. It is identical to the manual transmission E39 530i we have - despite being AWD and more power.
Drove from BOS -> NYC and trip computer reported 29.1 MPG at average speed of 72.1 mph.
I get about 18miles to the gallon according to my CPU. I rarely ever get on the freeway for most of my driving, so i figured to be at the lower end of the spectrum. Not impressive MPG figures, bu I only live 4 miles from work

...On my 2004, e60 530i, and by my trip computer now says I am getting 33.4mpg on the interstate I-20 east bound to Augusta GA from Atlanta, (hwy), at 65 to 70 mph, and I average 22 to 23 mpg in the city.

(NOTE: I-20 east ((or west)) is a long straight boring flat, (with few hills, and no curves), interstate hwy to Augusta, GA, and its hard to speed any, with GSP (Georgia State Patrol) sitting on side of the road every other exit seems like with my radar detector constantly going off!!

A lot of people in the states would kill for that type of mileage.
That's better than a Honda Civic...

Yeah, my dad drove to the store, about 10 miles round trip. He boosted my mpg reader to about 17. I drove to a friend's house about 5 miles round trip, back down to 15.6. I think maybe I drive like an idiot, and sometimes I do just to see the power (I came from a 190hp 1994 ES300 ) but I don't think it should kill my mileage that badly. I guess I won't use that reader more and do it the old-fashioned way. Atleast it's more reliable.
