Fuel Consumption

Merv, What gps gatso alert do you use ?
I have a Snooper S4 Neo - but am unhappy because it consistently fails to alert when targetted (on several ocassions) by the laser copper on the Heathrow perimeter Rd.
PS Looking at your location ....are you a friend of Matt Neal?

Just done Hampshire to Manchester-Liverpool and back home. (over 2 days watching U2!)
Cruised at 80-85mph (subject the normal crap traffic and weather!) and averaged just under 40mpg.
How cool is that!?!?!!?!?!?

I will be hitting 10K Kms tonight (just got it 2 months ago) and to be honest, I have not paid too much attention to the consumption (average 9.5L/100Kms) as I had an M3 before so I kept on visiting the station. I let loose every chance I get with this beast so, I cannot complain.

The revs were somewhere between 3 and 4,000 rpm and the car I was following was an Audi TDI. My wife was with me and was amazed when I told her the speed we were doing. The engine sound didn't change at all. I didn't overtake as I was hiding behind him, however I think I could have easily left him behind, the pickup on the 535d at speed is fantastic due to the second turbo. I also followed a Merc c class which touched 140mph at one point. The traffic was very light on the M40 but as we got to the M25 jct he slowed to 80mph. Obviously knows that part of the M'way.
I never speed to any excess in isolation. Safety in numbers
Stu.
I have a snooper too - don't know which model. It picks up a lot of false alarms but has always picked up camera's etc.
Don't know Matt Neal. Where does he live? Stourbridge is a big place.
Back to the topic - I thought the fuel economy at high speeed was excellent.

Having only just got my car I couldn't comment on its fuel consumption yet! but from reading the manual I did spot this paragraph about the average fuel consumption display:
"The average fuel consumption is calculated for the period since the engine was last started."
which I read as it is calculated for the current journey only, it is not an average calculated from when it was last reset. So when you look at it and see disappointing results remember that is the figure for the current journey only and that your overall average fuel consumption figure may well be better.
Apologies if this is already known but it came as a surprise to me because it is not how it has worked in previous BMW's that I've had that I recall.
