6,000 miles in - 535d.

That is a huge difference over what I'm getting (and others). Do you remember what you were getting before the tuning box? If it improves the mpg that much, it's definitely worth justifying to the wife now

I was getting quite low 30s, high 20s as far as I can recall. The engine now has 6,000 miles on it, so that will be helping. I'll try and do some more scientific comparisons and let you know.

You guys have it easy!! I recall last time I reset my consumption counter while cruising at ~130km/h and it showed just 23mpg on my 530i Your diesels are getting this type of consumption in city traffic what a bummer

Just went for a run of 71 miles, mixed A roads / B roads and motorway - average speed was 48.2mph. This returned 33.6mpg...so my higher figures were clearly because of long motorway driving.

Hi SG535d, can you let me know where you purchased/installed your Speedbuster tuning kit......I followed the link from your signature, but this website is in German.

Also, before fitting did you consider other kits like DMS Automotive or Tuningbox.

This forum has raved about the DMS kit, but quite frankly, it's a bit pricey for me, and I am more inclined to go with tuningbox, whose kit is in the region of 500 Euros (c.?300). For my car, tuningbox quotes similar figures to your Speedbuster kit....did you consider it ?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Sorry for the delay in replying, just home after being away for a few days.

The link is only in German unfortunately, but the page does show you the power increase. The cost is over 800 euros, so the difference isn't massive compared to DMS. The reason I went for it was because at the time I could only find two companies with a tuning box for the 535d - one claimed it was the same box for the 530d and 535d (which I didn't believe) and the other was speedbuster.de

I also wanted something I could remove for dealer visits. I would have gone for tuningbox.com if they had one available at the time, as I've had two other cars with their boxes and found them to be excellent. So far I have no complaints about the speedbuster box (other than it is a pain to fit the first time) but do not know what it is like compared to the DMS conversion.

My Ride: E61 530d Touring, May 2004

My 530d Touring (May 04) gets only around 21mpg (UK) around town - worse than previous V6 petrol Audi.
Having been reported to dealer repeatedly, to no avail, they have now formally said in writing that "I can confirm that the fuel consumption of 20-22 mpg around town in our experience is commensurate with your model of car"

Best ever gentle run on motorway (following another car at 60mph) was only 35mpg.

Unhappy bunny

SGS 535d.........

Thanks for the reply.......I only just realised I was waiting for a reply from you, and so checked this thread.
Do you think the Tuningbox could easily be fitted by a lay person, given some clear instructions ? I am thinking of ordering one, but I do not have much mechanical experience.

Cheers

Drove to London from Birmingham the other other day, in a hurry, followed another car who was in a massive hurry, I'm talking speeds of up to 135mph and travel time of 1 hour and 25mins. Fantastic drive! The fuel consumption averaged 31mpg. Not bad
