Over 20,000 miles I've average 32.4mpg in my 530d so I'd expect the 535d to be lower. My average speed has been 55mph from memory according to the trip computer so a lot of my driving has been in excess of the legal maximum to achieve that

As colejl says the 535d is a high performance diesel so achieving high 20's overall isn't bad in my book when you have performance on tap that is not far short of the 545i.

1 MPG = 2.8248 Ltrs/100 kms

That is for an Imperial gallon not a US gallon.

Divide 235 with consumption reading to get mpg to l/km and opposite. This applies for US gallon.

My 530d is around 35.000 kms.

Consumption around 7,5 l and 8,0 l in regular driving on the road( between 80 km/h and 150 km/h).

Highway, between 8,0 l and 9,5 l (always more than 140 km/h and much of the time around 170/180 km/h). If i push it hard it will go for 9,5-10l (but that includes sometimes 50/60 kms distances at more than 200 km/h reaching the max speed possible).

City, around 8-9 liters.

I think i can't complain....

Hi Everyone

Can anyone help, new 535d sport delivered Dec 04, current mileage 2995, brilliant ride in every respect other tha fuel consumption, cannot get it over 26mpg driving carefully, the book indicates I should be getting 35mpg from mixed driving.

I am advised by the dealer that it should improve as the engine loosens up, the salesman has asked that I take the car in for an inspection if the situation has not improved by 5000 miles.

Your comments would be appreciated.?

I have a 535d Sport too and have now done 1800 miles. My experience with the consumption is pretty similar to yours though I do a lot of driving in London and if you use a heavy right foot whilst driving in the city you'll see 20 mpg in my experience. Having said that out on the open road it's much better on a recent 300 mile trip avearaging 77 mph I got 36 mpg which I was pretty impressed with. I think as others have said you have to remember the performance the 535d offers compared to say a 545i (which was slower round a track on a test in a German magazine!) and then look at the consumption and you'll be much happier. I have a 530i loan car at the moment which has 1000 miles on it and has averaged 17mpg at around 17 mph which is in itself bad and much worse than the 535d would be...and the performance is not in the same league!

Or switch to mpg in your idrive. If you have the latest software you can select mpg US and mpg UK, as well as L/Km.
