13 to 16mpg City and 19 hw. Lots of city driving in 1, 2 and 3rd gear. Lots of stops and starts. The old adage that manual transmissions are more efficient than auto does not apply a big V8 where the load of the torque converter is negligible. It city driving a step will drop into 6th when you release the throttle, but with manual you hold the revs.
Thats why the 550 now has a $3500 gas guzzler tax for SMG and sped. Its waived on the Step.

This is one occasion where my small engined car can be trumpeted above the bigger motors on here ![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)
On my 750 mile car, driven 50 miles each way to work, and back, (100 total) over freeway type roads, no jams, between 40 - 80 mph (50 average), im getting 49 mpg Imperial and equiv to 39-40 mpg US gallons.
Diesel M47 engined 163 HP 520d SE. Manual box
cheers
steve
PS - if you want to feel better, your cars at 19 mpg will still be cheaper as fuel in the UK is $8.23 per UK gall (1.2 us gall) at the moment, due to our high fuel costs and low dollar value ($1.95 to gall) at present

I have a 545i e60 and I am averaging about 19.1 MPG under "normal" non-aggressive driving. I am curious to know what other e60 owners are averaging. Please reply even if you have e60 with other engines. (I6)

My 535d currently returns about 26 US mpg with about 70% short suburban trips, 30% longer distance and very little city driving. In summer, about 10% more.

500 km's at a tank.
But I'm driving mostly city and suburban.
Note that the cell cam pic gives 28,3 mpg
at the cruise speed of 140 km (87 mph).
