Fuel Consuming
The obc is now telling me 30.1... yep, I am easily getting 400 miles + on a tankful -- after next week and about another 500 miles i'll do the calcs and post the result v. the obc calc...
this is, after all, only a baby with the 2.2l but i certainly don't drive in a manner typical of one trying to economise: i don't pay for the petrol (another mitigating factor in the choice betwixt the 520i and the 530d.
i've not been driving too hard, so as to do that break-in thing... that said, i drive fast, seldom below 80 on the motorways (when possible) and, given the smaller powerplant, pulling away from a redlight or pulling out respectably into the next lane is only an option when you stamp on it.
so far, the mileage seems excellent, tho' now of course i have to doubt the obc but, in any case, 400miles+ range seems a reasonable benchmark

Hi all,
I did the test too. The offset is just 6% off. The computer actually reports a larger fuel consumption!!! (11,8 l/100km instead of 11,2 l/100km that i have mesured).

Well, that is a different story.
I leave in a relatively small town with lots of stops and intersections. Plus that i drive for really short distances (1-3 km).
On the other hand, i really enjoy the torque of my diesel and i mostly drive in sport mode.
As for what BMW or any other constructor "expects" for their cars in terms of fuel consumption... Well, that is a totally different story!
I have a 530D with manual transmission, with about 6000 miles on the clock. I get about 570-600 miles from a tank of diesel, in mixed driving. On a trip to Paris recently I managed to get 630, doing 80-85mph most of the way. Computer read about 45mpg, and said I could do another 20 miles. The worst I have seen on the computer is 39.7 on a whole tank. I havent verified whether the computer is accurate or not, but the car seems very frugal.
so the math is done...and the obc is pretty much correct, in my case
1921 miles using 307.57 litres (67.67 gallons UK)
=
29.28 miles per gallon
now remember - these are UK gallons (and I was wondering if that meant the OBC calcs were only off with US cars & their US-sized gallons?)
I am happy with 29+mpg esp, considering how I certainly don't drive the car easily.
cheers
