Got the flat tire warning this morning on the way to work
I have 18x8 Bridgestone Potenza Runflats.
Got out of the car. tires look fine, car rides o.k.
Is there something about runflats that you can't really tell they are flat?
I couldn't reset the ftm from the i-drive.
These tires are brand new, less than 400 miles on them
I recently added air to them (Saturday) as they were a little low.
So now the car is in the garage at work and I will go check them at the end of the day.
Any suggestions? clues? observation?
Thanks

Why not?
New tyres get punctures! You should reset the FTM after changing pressures...

Can't speak as to whether a visual inspection of run-flats can determine if they are "flat", but I will say that the FTM system needs to be re-calibrated after adjusting the air in the tires. Just don't do what I did--didn't notice the final step in the procedure to "drive off", and I sat at the filling station for 20 minutes waiting for the "Initializing" message to go off. The tires needs to be rolling to calibrate the FTM.

The above replies all contain good advice. Cyclist, in order to fix your problem, follow these steps:[list]* manually check all tire pressures with a tire pressure gauge (do this when the tires are "cold" meaning you haven't driven for a while)
1) adjust pressures if needed
2) start the car but before driving off, go to the FTM menu (under the settings menu) and select "initialize" (or "set tire pressure") to begin the initialization process
3) drive the car around for a while and eventually the status on the FTM screen will change from "initializing" to something like "active" or "ready" (can't remember the exact wording right now)
If you don't have time to drive around, just begin the initialization process -- the car will eventually initialize after you drive around on another day, etc.
Good luck...

If the run flat tire is truly flat (i.e. not just low, but no air pressure), you can tell. It'll look like a normal tire with very low pressure. Back when I still had 'em on my car, I tested the whole system by letting all the air out of one run flat tire.
Just do what Rudy says - new tires sometimes need a little time to fully seat.

Cyclist:
I have had my FTM go off many times w/o having a flat tire. It seems a minor change in tire pressure can set it off. I keep a BMW tire pressure gauge handy - it takes up most of the interior storage space. A quick check and I can determine if I really have a flat.
