My auto headlights turn on almost all the time under bright sunlight. A search showed me it should have been fixed by CIP 16.xx. I have CIP 19.02 already but still have this nagging problem.

What about you guys? Are you auto headlights work fine? Or do you either simply live with it or never use the auto function?

It is frustrating because auto headlight is not even close to high tech. My 6-year old Camry's auto lights never turned on wrongly even once. (No, I don't miss my old Camry but I do miss its auto lights)

Okay glad you say that.

I don't trust the auto headlights because it is on most of the time since I parked indoor. The auto headlights will be on all day if you start your car in a dark place even though you spent most of the time in bright light. So it depend on the lighting condition when you start your car.

Nope no problems here since day one in either car...it works as designed.. maybe your sensor needs to be replaced. <_<

The car drives so great. There is no way I am gonna give up the car just because of this. However the auto headlight feature is such a convenience (never needed to worry about turning on/off headlights in the past 6 years), and the (little) problem we are experiencing should be very easily fixed. I just couldn't believe BMW hasn't come up with a stable fix yet after 2 years. This is where the frustration comes from.

The sensor has a documented problem with false switch ons when the sun is low on the horizon. Obviously as we are getting towards winter, this happens more often.

There is no fix for it.

I've no complaints about the auto headlights. They remain switched on for a while in the bright sunshine and then goes off after a while. I think there's a built-in timer.

Oops, just saw you guys's posts after the typing. Alright I am willing to have another dealer visit just for this. As a matter of fact, I do hope I am the only having this problem. At least it proves to me there is nothing wrong with BMW's design, just bad part and bad luck.

My rain sensors actually work surprisingly well. I am amazed by the technology behind it. To me, it is a much advanced feature. And BMW did a great job on it.
