front upper strut mount nut shift
Hello,
i have a 2008 e60 and i noticed today that the 3 upper strut mount nuts front car are misaligned with where the nuts used to be. I enclosed the pic as a reference. Notice the previous print marks from the nut on the paint...
I noticed it only on 1 side of the car, the other one is fine.
Do you think
1/ someone changed the shocks at some point and during the install they didn t realign the strut the same way it was originally?
2/ Is it possible that following a pot hole of some sort, the strut could have shifted, or could have happened over time?
Can this be a potential issue?
The car drives straight and precise, no indication of any noise and everything feels tight.
No indication of uneven wear to the front tires.
Thanks!

out of curiousity, i'd remove one nut to see if the holes are still round, or if they were egged out to allow movement. was this car ever in an accident? had an alignment done?

Looks like they took out a bit of negative camber. The prev owner most likely had an alignment shop dial out the negative camber to help with tire wear. If your concerned you can take it to alignment shop to check out.

ok thanks!
so when they align the front, they actually loosen those nuts as well?
There are no indictation of the car being hit on the front right side of the car i can find although it s always a possibility. And i do not believe the shock was ever replaced, the car bearly reached 60k miles.
The holes are larger than the bolts that goes thru them to be attached to the nuts.
The tires are both evenly worn from one to the other, and in both cases the tires are worn a bit more on the inside.

ok thanks
I ll ask the dealer to have a look the next time i ll take the car for maintenance. I think there is nothin to worry about since there are no indication of a driveability problem so far.
Cheers,

If you want to be 100% sure, have them put it on the alignment machine. It will either be in alignment or out. That is one of the alignment adjustments. Most places don't charge if they put it on the alignment machine and it is within spec. Make them give you a printout of the alignment before and after.
