When there is a passenger in the front seat, there is a noise coming from the front passenger seat every time I hit a bump. I can only describe it as the sound that you hear when two olympic weights hit each other (ie. putting a 45 lb. weight on a barbell and it hitting another 45 lb weight). The odd thing is that I had the same noise in my last e60 (2004 525i). This time, however, the noise is getting louder and more prominent. It's gone beyond a minor annoyance. Passengers are now asking about it. And I'll either need to take the seat apart or take it to the dealer. Altough, I doubt it would be covered by the CPO. Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced the same noise.

Forgive me if this has already been posted. I searched and only found "squeeking" and "popping" type noises, as it relates to seats.

I have a similar sound, just curious if you have the sunroof popped up? I have a weird metal sound but it only makes the noise when the sunroof is popped up, if the sunroof is open I dont get tha metalic noise. It does sound like weights being placed on a barbell!

It's the sunroof popped up. Just feel your hand front of the sunroof window you can feel metallic thing. It's that which causes the annoying sound.
Sometimes when I hear it I just press that metal piece little bit and it stops.. Sorry I couldnt explain more better cuz english is not my primary language..

When does the noise come? When you brake? when you start accelerating? standing still? while the passenger is getting in to the seat?

He said when he hits a bump... something is loose (thats the obvious answer). I dont think its the seat or anything around it - nothing down there will make the sound of 2 weights hitting each other. I would check the sunroof as well.

Wind deflector rattle is what we are hearing. part labeled # 2 in the below diagram. I'd put some grease around the mounting points on that wind deflector.

when the sunroof is fully opened, the wind deflector lifts up fully; as a result, no noise. When the rear of the sunroof is lifted up, the front part of the sunroof is partially allowing the wind deflector to move up and down.

As a test, while the rear of the sunroof is up, drive on a bad road, and put your fingers on the wind deflector and hold it, you won't hear the noise.

Mine did that too. They ended replacing the deflector and the seal.
