My Ride: 2006 White 530xi
Default

I just picked up a 2006 530xi with 88,xxx miles, took it to my indy for an oil change and an inspection. It has been making a quite alot of noise, seeming coming from the left front end of the car. When going over any type of rough pavement at low speeds, its as if the entire front end seems to be falling off the car. My indy said we needed to replace the left and right lower control arm bushings, so we did. The front end still seem to be jolted over bumps and makes alot of annoying noises. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks Chris

Check your sway bar links and bushings, as well as your upper strut mounts. I'm experiencing something similar, and i looked at the bushings and noticed that they are starting to dry rot.

My indy has found worn out sway bar end links, so they are to replaced on both sides. I'll let you know if it solves this horrible noise. Chris

more than likely that is your noise. They make it sound as if the front end of the car is falling out when going over bumps.

I had the same type of noise it turned out to be the shocks my car just hit 100k when i removed the original shocks the front rod piston would come up halfway and get stuck first time ive seen a shock absorber do that, also notice other suspension components were worn to but i will take care of those later. i replaced it with some bilsteins sports and lowered it with eibach sportline no more clunking noise

Well, the sway bar end link bushings didn't elimanate the clunking noise, so my indy is installing two new front struts. I'll let you know how it all comes out. Chris

Two new BMW front struts and $1000 parts and labor. Now everything is nice and quiet! Chris

Do you know if they replaced the strut mounts as well?

Didn't replace strut mounts that I know of, but the noise is gone and everything is quiet and tight. Chris
