I have a 2005 525I with 54000 miles. I am going to change the front brakes but I was wondering if I should change the rotors and the brake sensor also? I have already bought the OEM pads from Brecht BMW in Escondido $182 dollars I got ripped, should have done more online research. I also was wondering if anyone has tried the aftermarket dust covers?

you spent $182 for front brake pads alone? i would recommend you check with some of the vendors on here first from now on, they could you gotten you aftermarket pads like Axxis Deluxe dustless pads for much cheaper.

anyway, it is recommended that you change out everything at the same time when changing brakes but ive heard of people just doing pads and sensors if the rotors look alright. run a quick search on the top right corner of this page for more info on changing brakes.

Good luck and welcome to the forums!

Did you buy just the pads or is it actually a kit? I had brakes recently replacced at dealer under service plan. There was just one part number for a kit which included 2 sensors. Kit # 34 11 6 764 540. For my '04 545i.

Rotors were replaced as part of the normal brake job. SA said that they have no wear spec on the rotors. The rotors are designed to wear with the pads.

No sensors just the four brake pads! Thanks for the info on the rotors, I will go ahead and replace everything just to be safe!

Sup dude,

I just finished changing all rotors and pads, sensors.

I think you should go ahead and swap in some new rotors and the one sensor (driver side). I initially only changed the pads and rotors beacuse I thought the sensor "looked" good. However I found out after that I could NOT resset the brake pad warning in Idrive. once I changed the sensor everythign resset fine.

I found teh sensors here for like 12 buks...good deal.

The disk are changed every second time with the pads.

Sensors need renewal at every change.

So the rotors don't wear with the pads? What specs can I use to evaluate the rotors or do you
Just wing it and hope for the best?

Sorry, I don't know the specs for the disks, but you can judge for yourself by looking at them.

And by changing the disks with every second pad change, I guess you will be safe.

Just had my front & rear brake pads & sensors replaced under warranty yesterday. Was getting the sensor warning (electronic tone) upon coming to a stop. They checked the rotors and said they were within spec. They quoted the specs as 22.4 mm front & rear. Mine were 28.8 mm front and 23.3 mm rear. Problem is, I still got the sensor warning on the drive home after the repair. Got it three times, two stopping forward and once stopping in reverse. Will be calling the SA today to report it. There was a card in the car saying to avoid violent braking for the first 125 miles after the brake service. Could it be that the sensors were incorrectly installed during the service? Or is there some break-in before sensors behave normally?
