A short while ago I took my wheels in for an oil change. Even though it has low miles it's a year old, and I figured it couldn't hurt (except my wallet).

Well the dealership did it for free. I'm not sure if that's part of the BMW service plan or just good business practices, but in either case was a welcome event.

Oil change can be based on the OBC or period of time since oil was last changed, usually one year.

from what i've learned from this forum, you can get free oil change every year even the obc doesn't show any message.

I got a free oil change at 9000 mi and 8 months without asking for it or the OBC indicating it while I had some other things done.

On BMW's maintenance program they will change your oil for free after one year. My wife's 2003 325i hit a year in service before the OBC called for the oil to be changed. This happend in May 2004. My dealer changed the oil but did not reset the OBC. Later in August 2004 when the OBC called for the oil to be changed, my dealer did it again along with all the other items to be done at Oil Service 1. They then reset the OBC. I also believe they will change the brake fluid after the car has been in service for two years but I think you have to tell them about as they probably won't volunteer to do it.
