Wait. Isn't this just an access cable from car to computer? Couldn't you simply disconnect it? If not, I don't want to risk any damage to your laptop, so I'll pass it on to the next member.

The laptop comes with all the installed softwares. I installed them to my laptop from the 4 discs that came with the aforementioned BMW diagnostic package. Without the complete programs (softwares), the OBD cable will not be able to communicate with your car's computer. Hence, you will need a computer with the necessary softwares to do your diagnostic work or codings.

You are welcomed to borrow the cable if you already have the softwares installed in your computer.

...maybe, my sudden urge to do something nice is not a good idea after all.

I've been known in the past to do the same.

I once gave a homeless guy $100. He questioned me why and I just said: "you need it more than I do today". For a second, he thought it was a trick.

Just like the diagnostic tool I have, how often do we really have a use for it.

This actually has just given me a great idea (well I think so atleast). Lately I think that there is not enough give back on this forum. This will improve the community and people will get free stuff too in return. Here's how.

If people have stuff that they don't mine giving away, all you do is get someone to improve something on the forum e.g. write a DIY, merge a few thread, write a know-how etc. In return for that you get your freebie.

I would be happy to take you up on the cable offer but I am St. Louis. I need to code my aux input on my 2006 530xi.

Can you send the software discs to? I have a laptop I used on my Audi with a VAG cable.

I'll send the cable and discs back with a small donation for helping me out.

No worries if things have changed

Kerry
