When I drove a loaner e60, I found out the light switch is taller than the one in my car. I thought maybe the newer model has taller switches.

I was playing with it today, and pulled the switch, I found out it actually works both ways. Check the pictures.

Says BMW AG when I bought the car and all E60s that came off the line.

I bet it was your fat knee that kocked it in.

Interesting ... i found the switch on my car in when I took delivery of it and then it popped out when I played around trying to figure out what I thought was an issue with my auto headlamps function. Thought I had broken it, until I noticed that, in my User Manual, all illustrations of the switch show it in the "out" position.

I quite like the switch when it's in, though ... nice and flush with the rest of the dash... but it refuses to depress no matter how hard I try

I think the knob is designed to pop in under moderate pressure as a safety feature in case of a collision with a knee, etc.

If you really want it to be in, you just have to give it some firm pressure...
