Ugly, the problem is similar to the problem that car makers had when they had to supply mobile phones in the car.
The car design cycle is much slower than the every 4-5 month mobile phone cycle. So when BMW introduced the CPT-8000 or CPT-9000, it was already out of date.
Bluetooth has allowed them to break out of this mold.
Unfortunately, there are too many tolerances and interactions for in car computers to make it feasible to swap them out.
I?ll be meeting again with the head of technology design in the U.S. shortly - in fact he?s speaking on my panel at TechFest next month. You should come!

Actually, I like the force feedback function.... I don't find it slow nor tedious to use.... Esp when driving and not looking at the screen.... small moments but given a choice, I would still like MY i-Drive to come with it.... just my 2 cents....

It's actually software control force feedback. I used old iDrive controller when I retrofit CCC. The moment I turn on the ignition, force feedback is right there although I have non-CCC iDrive controller.

I retrofitted CCC myself on my previous E60, and I reused iDrive control unit. I replaced MAS-K with CCC and 6.5" monitor with 8.8". After installing those, force feedback is there.
