I played with them almost the entire day. My car was right in front of my office and I just folded them, unfolded them, folded them... Not all day long, but sometimes...

First time I went in to get the folding mirrors done along with other things, the technician wasn't able to activate the mirrors However when I pressed the lock button it worked. Obviously he didn't know how to press the lock button in the first place.
I don't know I think the technicians at dealers should keep this forum handy when at work.

Would save a lot of return trips for us E60 owners.

the folding mirrors are waaaay cool :winkcool: and i wish i have them. but i saw a lot other cars have this feature in other countries and don't even need to press the lock button. they fold in when the key is out of the ignition and fold out when you start the car.

I guess that's something BMW will add in the future.

My car which is US spec has voice-activated folding mirror. It take about 10 seconds to fold them completely. Here is how you program it:

When you turn off your ignition key, ask your wife "would you please fold up those two outside rearview mirrors?" Depends on the mood, those two mirrors will be folded for you

Just kidding guys. I wish we had that folding feature here. I found Lexus LS430 (Toyota Celsior) has that feature. Those mirrors fold automatically - that's neat.

You may be able to add folding mirrors to a US car, based on a positive response from BMW in Germany (Niederlassung, just North of Munich). Attached is the email response that I received (sorry, in German) that stated that they would try it, referring to the necessary parts and total cost. They also referred to a technical bulletin (attached, also in German) that covers this topic.

Total Parts Cost: 1357 ?
Labor Cost (@ 118 ?/hour): Unspecified
No guarantee that it will work (!)

This could be throwning money in a hole. The German market would be the best place to get this done since they have experience with the feature (their cars get it, and they know how it works, etc); it would be difficult for the US technician to retrofit it since the US market does not get this feature and has never seen the "folding mirror" option work. This is not a simple retrofit, as a custom cable would have to be made to connect to the US car's arm rest (since it is not pre-cabled for this feature).

I decided not to have this done: too costly to retrofit, and no guarantee of it working. I had considered doing this while I was in Munich, accepting my car via Euro Delivery.

Subject: Moeglich? Anklappbare Au?enspiegel

Sehr geehrter Herr Duncan,

Bitte geben Sie mir Bescheid.

Mit freundlichen Gr??en
Susanne Frank
