Wait. Is this tread saying that BMW went to the trouble of installing a motor as part of each mirror assembly that folds the whole assembly against the window and yet they disabled it for the US??? This sounds nuts so perhaps I'm missing something (as usual.)

Mirrors are motorised for folding, can be switched from inside the car..all do this when the option is fitted to your car, what the thread is saying is that they should fold either automatically when you lock the doors, or when you hold the "lock" button on the Key...
Either of the latter would be cool

It is possible here in the UK, but I had to ask for it to be programmed ( free when car was in for warranty work ). Now when I hold the lock button, the mirrors fold , the windows & sunroof also close at the same time. My Idrive is version 19 but it also worked pre-17.

My windows open and close by the key but not my mirrors folding other than from the internal switch on the door... How long did it take the dealer to prog this function???

Electric folding mirrors are very popular with Japanese cars (don't know who invented this maybe the Japanese cos folding mirror on Euro cars are quite new on the market compare to Japanese car) Usually found on Asian or Euro spec cars because of the limited space (=small parking space) we have comparing to America. If you don't have folding mirrors sometimes is impossible to get out of the car without hitting someone's mirror. So I think for US spec. cars they don't offer this feature cos no one fold in their mirrors and there is no need to. So no motor in your mirror, just like E39.

Sorry I'm not sure how long it took to set this up, as car was in for other work. The service receptionist didn't seem too confused when I requested this, so it must be quite common. The I drive has since been upgraded twice & it still works without me having to request it again. I can confirm that it also works on 2nd set of keys.
