Ice,

can you fill us in on what your dealer will be doing to get them to stay on all the time? will it be rewired under the dash, or what?
I don't know if he needs some new wires, but he will attach them somehow to the radio, so that they work with the key in position 1. Having it this way will not cause trouble with battery drain when car is parked and will not cause any warning messages. But there will still be power when you turn off the engine, until you pull out the key!

IMO, the versatility far outweighs the cost.

Fold down seats are good for giving my mother in law more room when she rides in the trunk!

The split/fold rear seats also come with a 12V power supply in the boot/trunk - this is the main reason I regret not getting this option.
In the US the power outlet in the trunk comes with or without the fold down seats.

I don't have it so that's a bummer.. I forgat to ask the dealer for retrofitting options.. I'm there tomorrow anyway (I visit them once a week to solve problems on my car aaarghh) so I'll ask how much it is.

What on earth would you use that socket for? I've been wondering about that.. [/quote]
Good question, FF. I have yet to use mine. I have a 12V spot light I always carry in the trunk for emergecies. Maybe if I had a tire inflator, but I have a stand alone compressor in the shop. Or, maybe if you had a 12V vacuum, but again, I have a 110V small hand vac. So, bottom line is, I do not have a bonafide use for that power plug. There are four more up front. Now I find occasional uses for them.

I would use it for my cooler when I go on a long trip.. Don't want to have that ugly blue thing on the rearbench... People might think I am a family man...
