So what do you think? should I take them off and do a heavy clearcoat to give them the BMW AC Schnitzer look (hard gloss like the OE wood interior) or do you think they look good raw and flat? I'm undecided. Probably too much work to clear because I'd have to be VERY careful on the build-up around the edges so it does not affect fitment and most of these pieces are an extremely tight fit. It's my first time working with this stuff but i'd say i'm near professional level Next up, just have to remove that steering wheel trim around the controls and doors. But I planned on removing entire door panels anyway to do some sound deadening and tighten them up nice and snug. Ever since I hopped in this E46 I was unimpressed with the interior's cheap quality, especially the doors and how they feel so hollow. The E39 and E46 were much more sturdy and "tank like" IMO

Very nice work!

Is that 3M Di-NOC vinyl? If it is, the pattern may "melt" (disappear) if you try to spray a clearcoat on it. My friend tried it and this happened. I don't know why, and I don't know if this will happen with other manufacturer's products...?

Yes 3M Di Noc. i was inspired when I saw flat eric thread the other day. Great job!

You're right probably too much work but was wondering what kind of clearcoat. you mean automotive grade right? I would think it would give the 3D look since...but the chemicals might break it down. We'll see I'll be testing a piece this week when i paint the front end of my car. Hit an aluminum ladder @ 80mph on the highway...took off my ACS front end and messed me all up. oh well, i was ready to take care of the bug damage anyway.

The unfitting thing actually fits quite well, so well i have a hard time getting it on/off lol. I like a thick wheel and I haven't been able to find a decent cover with self threads. This will protect it in the meantime. It's been with me for like 5 yrs now. If I take it off I can't drive right. The skinny wheel thing just messes with me.

Looks great, I am in the process of doing this.

Let me know how you take the steering wheel trim bits off, I'm stuck there

You have to remove the airbag and then you are able to remove the trim pieces.

Take a look at this: https://5series.net/forums/topic/700..._1#entry782319

Sounds like I'll have to do an SZL optic cleaning while I'm in there for preventative maintenance!
