Default Fitting genuine E60 M5 door mirrors

Hi I have an E60 54plate m sport and would like some advice on fitting a pair of genuine M5 mirrors .

My current/original barn door mirrors are just heated only .

I have a pair of genuine lhd M5 mirrors (already colour coded to my car) which I purchased very very cheaply.

Now I'm not really fussed about all the folding, and curb drop etc functions , I'm just interested to find out if I can fit them , they will be heated and I can see out of the properly ??

Any mods or fitting advice would be very welcome indeed .

Thank you Rebecca

Is "54plate" supposed to be 545? Some kind of weird auto-correct/fill?

There's a lot of threads on this.. key piece of thing that needs to be known is what year your car is and what year (or run date for 2006) mirror you're trying to get.

Nope will not work ... how many wires & plug in your M5 mirror which I purchased very very cheaply?

E60 before Sept. '05 uses many wires w/ 3 plugs for the side mirror which what in your car ... while E60 after Sept. '05 uses 3 wires w/ single plug in the mirror which what your M5 mirror has.

Also, take a step back and think about this for a moment ... your car is a RHD and you are going to fit a LHD ... all the side mirror housing will be angled the wrong way ... take a look and compare how the angle of left & right M5 mirror you purchased very very cheaply ... ... the mirror near where you sit (RHD in you case) will have an angle away from your door while the far mirror will have an angle closer to the far door.

Reading through this website , I'm so glad you have commented - I thank you !

Someone has suggested fitting rhd M5 base plates ? Would that cure my angle issue ?

As for the amount of wires/plug on the M5 lhd mirrors , I'm not sure, will need to check , will it be 1 or 3 multi plugs ?

Thanks again

I don't think it's only the base plate but more of the whole mirror housing has different angle. Try it yourself put them side by side and take a look carefully. The inside of the housing where the glass mounted may also have different angle between left & right.

Here's the pic of my LHD M5 mirrors ... as you can see they angle differently:

no they are not. whenever I have sold RHD mirrors people have always wondered why they are so expensive. Problem is that RHD M5 mirrors are very rare.

It's only the baseplate that is different between an LHD and RHD mirror. My drivers side mirror is currently for an RHD car, but I didn't notice this before it was painted and mounted. It works like it should, but the glass is tilted all the way out, so it looks kinda stupid. I have bought the correct baseplate, but I need to get it painted.

This part is not sold seperately from BMW, but if you find a wrecked car this part is usually not damaged.
