Our 04 525d is due it's first service at 18,000, which is about a month away. Just wondered if anyone in the UK know's what to expect?
Will they for example, upgrade the iDrive software as part of the service, or will it just be a typical change of fluids and a check around...? Just wondered if the car will come back with anything new?

Yes, be sure to have you washerfluid at max when you take your car to the service,
if you pay it yourself!
Otherwise the first service doesn't inclued more than a oilchange including the filter.
But of what I remeber they always also check the brakes and tires.
Also a CIP update can be done and possible other garantee repairs.

Engine: Flat six
In my first service got the oil changed.
Got my car yesterday from a repair ( crash in the rear by a stupid mini van) it costed to the insurance around 3.500 EUR and included new rear bumper, complete new exhaust system...
Got the 3rd mantenaince service done at 87.000 kms:
- oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, rear brake pads, windshield wippers, some cleaning materials ...
702,00 EUR !!
I think it's a little bit expensive .... and they were surprised by the long life of the rear brake pads, they were supposed to have half of the kms they got.... the oil was around 190 EUR.

702 EUR for all that stuff.... It's expensive - but I don't think it is overprized! It's included labor! If BMW Denmark did all that stuff on our car, it would have been around 1000 EUR, without any problems, I think!
Some BMW drivers in Denmark drive to Germany a get the service made there because of the prices here in Denmark..
We have 69.000 kms on clock and the service menu says another 19.000 km for the front brake pads and 29.000 km for the rear brake pads
I think that's great for such a heavy car !

I have my first service due next month. According to the SA, they normally do the oil change and top off the fluids. I will also complain about the wipers (which streak) to have them replace the pair.
But then, the maintenance program in the US covers all this.

With regards to your i drive and upgrades i note you have pro nav which previously didnt play MP3's. With the latest CIP 20 software it will.
They will normally only upgrade for free if you are experiencing faults with your i drive
The dvd can play disks with around 1000 tracks burnt to it or the single cd around 150. The changer doesnt play mp3 disks. With that capacity who needs an aux drive.
They will also probably need your car overnight for the software to be downloaded.
To my knowledge the latest software doesnt add anything else that is obviously apparent.
