I've been reading these forums the past couple days and am having trouble keeping up with all the acronyms. Is there a FAQ somewhere that lists everything?

Also, I'd like to acquire a tool for my 545i that allows me to read and clear error codes. Does anyone one this site have a recommendation on which to buy? I see lots of mentions on programming these cars. Is there a place where I can read more about this? And what is required to do the programming?

Thanks for helping a new guy out!

For information on coding your 5, read these links:
https://5series.net/forums/topic/106042-car-coding/

https://5series.net/forums/topic/108...ert-code-mods/

There is a lot of reading there, but you should learn quite a bit about what is required to code your 5.

Basically you will need the cable (to connect your car to a laptop), and software (NCS Expert). There are a few members here who are very experienced with coding our E60s. Maybe one of them is located in your area and could help you get started.

As for the acronyms.... It can be confusing..

LCI = Life Cycle Impulse - This is a mid cycle refresh of a car. E60's 04-07 (US) are pre-LCI, and 08-10 are LCI. The primary differences are headlights, tail lights, front bumper, and CCC.

CCC = Car Communication Computer - This is the computer that runs your iDrive.
CIC = Car Infotainment Computer - Debuted on some 08 BMWs.

I hope this helps some. Just search around, and spend time reading around the forums, you will learn all this in time.

I'm a new owner as well (purchased my '08 535i at the end of Oct), thanks for explaining LCI Pradden.

Are there images somewhere around here that shows the differences between pre-LCI and LCI?

Just to add to REZ's synopsis, LCI cars also have different interiors(door panels, seats, etc.), engines and transmissions. Cars beyond 2010 are called F10s, not E60(sedans)/E61(touring wagons)

I forgot about the seats and door panels.. my bad, DUH!!

O yeah, and for the record.... IMO, Pre-LCI comfort seat headrests are the best
