Now the 3 million resident of Long Island are part of the racetrack because there is nowhere to legally race and the races are held on the street.
I agree that they should open up more motor sports to keep racing off the streets. I also think our drivers licences should be harder to acquire just for the fact that you are operating heavy equipment that is just as deadly as any fire arm.
Some may think they they have the "force" behind them while driving but the reality is there are distracted bad drivers out there that will not see you in time and make a lane change without signaling, before you know it it's over and if you live it is your fault.

That story about AmericanM5 is sad, i remember reading it a while ago. At the time i thought back to when i was 18, if i was driving an M5 i wouldnt be here now with age comes wisdom. I don't know if i would trust myself with an M5 even at 36, that being said if anyone wants to lend me theirs for the week .

I drove an 11 second mustang when I was 18. It had the sheer power of an M5, without any of the safety features, handing capability or braking power of the M5. Needless to say, it is a wonder that I am alive today. I have had a few "heart in stomach" moments where I wondered how I would get out of a situation. One time I even shut my eyes thinking it was too late. It is a miracle i didnt hit that corvette that i was trying to pass in the shoulder as he decided to make a left, or the telephone pole at the corner or that road he was turning on to. I was doing about 90 in a 35. (obviously it was inexperience, immaturity and stupidity all wrapped into one) One day when I have kids, they wont drive 500 HP cars at the age of 18. It is like handing a child a loaded gun.

I was a foolish kid, and I am ashamed of how I drove when I was a teenager.

Whatever we are next to each other, a glance at my rpm (I hit 6500 rpm) and my 550i is holding great next to him.
But there is too much traffic and I have to brake as I am getting stuck behind slow cars.

That was fun...he did not kill me and I was surprised by that!
I'm surprised too.

The older SL55 AMG engines have 470hp & 520 ft/lbs torque. The newer models have 510hp & 530 ft/lbs torque. Correct me if I'm wrong but a 550i has 360/360. I can't find any weight data but offhand I'd think a 2 seater would have a significant weight advantage over a 4 door sedan.

Bottom line - the AMG car has a much more powerful motor and weight advantage over your 550i.

Either the AMG wasn't going full throttle or you were VERY lucky.

I think the SL is really heavy. I posted a week or two ago that I raced a CLS 55 AMG from two stoplights and the cars were dead even. After the second race he pulled behind my car to see the numbers on the decklid and then pulled next to me and raised his hands and shrugged his shoulders.
The MB only comes in an automatic so its just a matter of flooring it, I had my DTC and DSC off, maybe he had his on. Maybe that's what happened to Rolly888.

Good point - I looked it up and the MB actually weighs about 300lbs more. Combine that with a lousy transmission and a 550 could run with it.

Never realized the SL class was so heavy - I stand corrected.
