Hello,

Thanks to everyone for all the great info on the board!! I finally received my 545 last Friday, after a long wait at the VPC - DME replacement. I love this car. It replaces my 2001 540iA, step, sport, premium sound. Though I only have 100 miles on it to date, here're my comments.

This car drives like I always wished the E39 would. I like the lighter, more agile feel, relative to the heavy-feeling E39. It's much smoother and forgiving on rough roads.

The Logic 7 system is fantastic. No fatigue after listening at high levels.

Active steering is great. Excellent turning radius, and remarkably stable. Much less drift in the lane at speed.

Two somewhat negatives. First, I never would have thought that they could get even less storage into a car of this size. The center console, while larger, is pretty inconvenient, with the flip up box in there. Second, I really wish the 545iA with Sport Package came with a sport steering wheel. The stock wheel is very thin, relative to the posrt wheel in the E39.

Otherwise, I love it. It's beautiful, inside and out, and I can't wait to get out of break-in.

Oh, that's nice. Beautiful in black. Classic.

I still remember fondly when my 545iM had temporary plates, a few weeks ago....

I agree the center console storage is stupid. Oh, well. Plus the tires and suspension are built for high-quality roads, not midwest expansion strips and crummy pothole fills. But it's so fun to whip this thing around corners, it really makes up for all the little criticisms.

Gotta love that black sapphire! I have it too and it really sticks out. You'll get lots of looks in that baby. Where in Nor Cal are you? I'm in Sacramento.

The black on black 545i is absolutely gorgeous! IMHO, BMWs look great in black, probably better than any other color. Where I live, though, black cars incurs a HUGE heat-gain penalty when parked outside in the summer! OUCH!

555 - I'm in Walnut Creek, basically.

amigo525 - I don't have plates as of yet. I prefer not to use the drive-away ads on my car, and state regs just require the report of sale to be stuck to the windshield in the meantime.

tab545 - I'm with you - every vehicle has its imperfections - priorities, right?
