My Ride: 530i
Model Year: 2004
Hello all, let me introduce myself to the forum. I always wanted a BMW since a thought BMW stood for (Bob Marley and the Wailers) growing up in Jamaica. I just bought a 2004 530i stick shift with navigation and 85000 miles on it. The car drives great but i have no maintenance records for it. I'm pretty handy with working on my own cars but not ever a BMW. Can you guys or gals give some info on what preventive maint. things i need to start doing and what little demons to look out for with the car. Again glad to be part of the BMW family.

Hi and welcome to the family. What you can do is call your local dealership and ask for the service dept, provide them the VIN number, and they should be able to pull up a history as long as the maintenance was performed at a BMW dealership.
Also, is your iDrive indicating you need any service? You would see annoying messages when you startup your car if you did.

BMW's standard stance is to follow whatever the Idrive tells you to do. Most independent will tell you that this is a good program to follow if you're not going to keep your car for a long time. If you plan to keep your car well past the 100K miles mark, you really need to perform more maintenance than what BMW recommends. For instance, BMW tells us that the transmission and differential fluids never need to be replaced. Baloney!!! I follow the maintenance plane outlined on the newsletter below and highly recommend that anyone planning on keeping their car do the same. Look for the ultimate maintencance schedule below:
