I am using a last generation 60G iPod in my aux port. It works great but every once in a while when I select artist, it will give me songs rather then artists. The only cure that I have found it to reset the iPod by holding the top of the wheel and the middle button for a few seconds. I am wondering if it's the iPod or the USB input that causes the problem. Also, it's not the fastest. In all fairness, I have over 12,000 songs so I understand that it's not going to be lightening fast but would a new iPod be any faster or is it limited by the car's software??
Thanks,
Jeff

I have the iPod retrofit and the same iPod. Mine is very slow as well. My car is "way older" than yours, but I think it is a BMW software problem....that might not be possible to fix...
I have a friend who says that hard drive based iPods are slower & less reliable than flash memory based. Have you tried Nano??? I have not...don't have one.

I would think it's the BMW software also. I have an 80gb, definitely takes some time to load my music, I think it's the speed of the bmw processors...I'm not bothered by the slow speed tho...

C'mon, someone HAS to know!!
I have arranged my songs into smaller playlists just for the car.
If the ipod is pulling up the playlists instead of the entire library, its faster I have found.

But of course if it only happens in the car, then yeah it's BMW's software.

+1. That's why I tend to usually stick to playlists...

Are you having the same issue when using the iPod outside the car? I had a 20gig that started doing the same thing, then it would freeze up & I'd just hear the hard drive spinning. The reset like you're doing would work 4 a day or two. Finally took it into Apple and was told hard drive was failing so I traded it in for a new 16gig iPod touch, much faster w/ the flash drive. And they give 10% off for trading.
But of course if it only happens in the car, then yeah it's BMW's software.

If so, the acid test is one of the following:
1.) try your iPod in another car with 6FL (come to me in Long Island if you wish)
2.) try another iPod with the same set of tracks in your car
