So I started calling up a few dealerships this week to get an idea on what the different extended warranty packages go for. So far their prices seem to be the same. I asked the advisors over the phone if the prices were negotiable, and they all said no. I belief that BS, I heard some people have negotiated these extend contracts down. Maybe sitting down face to face with them, they would more than likely come down on the price.

Below is a detailed description of Powertrain Plus, Gold & Platinum Coverage Levels

POWERTRAIN PLUS:

Engine:
Cylinder head(s) and cylinder block. All internally lubricated parts including: pistons, piston rings and pins; crankshaft, main and connecting rod bearings; connecting rods; camshaft and bearings; timing chains and/or belts; sprockets; rocker arms and shafts; valves, valve springs, upper spring plates (retainers); valve collets, guides, and seats; hydraulic valve clearance compensators (lifters); oil pump assembly. Dipstick assembly; vibration damper; flywheel/ring gear; upper and lower timing case covers; intake and exhaust manifolds; engine mounts; valve cover(s); oil pan.

Automatic/Standard Transmission including Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG) and Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT):
Transmission case, torque converter, all internally lubricated parts contained within the transmission case including: all sprockets, shaft bearings, bushings, drums, pumps and valves. Transmission mount; flywheel; drive plate for torque converter. Coverage is not afforded for standard/SMG/DCT transmission clutch assemblies, which are subject to wear and tear.

Final Drive Assembly, Propeller Shaft(s):
Final drive housing; all internally lubricated parts contained within the final drive housing including: all sprockets, bearings and output shafts; CV joints; universal joints; front and rear hub assembly, hub bearings; propeller shafts.

Transfer Case (xDrive vehicles only):
Transfer case, all internally lubricated parts contained within the transfer case including: all sprockets, shaft bearings, bushings, drums, pumps and valves. Transfer case mounts.

Electrical:
Alternator/generator; voltage regulator; starter motor, starter solenoid; engine control module; engine and transmission control modules.

Cooling System:
Water pump; radiator; fan clutch; coolant recovery tank; additional fan motor.

Fuel System:
Fuel injectors; Peizo injectors; fuel pumps (including high-pressure pump); metal and plastic lines and fittings; fuel injection and air flow sensors.

Induction System:
Turbocharger assemblies (vehicles so equipped)

SCR (Selected Catalyst Reduction) emission control system (Diesel Models Only):
Transfer pump, dosing module.

GOLD Coverage offers all the features of Powertrain Plus and more:

you may want to do a search on this topic. not only here, but at bimmerforum and bimmerfest forums. there is activity on those sites as well which may provide a broader scope to extended warranty dilemma. unless of course you are personally bound to purchasing the bmw warranty. this info as well as extended maintenance can also be found on bmw website. i too am looking to purchase and have 2 mos. to do so if i'm buying a warranty from bmw, otherwise 3rd party type. interesting that the difference in cost for gold 7/70k & platinum 7/70k is "only" $440, and gold 10/100k to platinum 10/100k is $490. you may want to detrermine from the dealer the exclusionary items in each level. note the fact that navigation and such are in the platinum category. i've heard of repairs to navigation system upwards of $2k - $3k.

^Thanks for your input. The price for the platinum is quiet expensive, but will be worth if you encounter costly repairs down the line out of warranty.
I have about 6 months or 4000 miles to opt for the BMW extended coverage.

i see it all on luck.... if your lucky nothing will happen to your car and you just spent all that extra hard earned cash on something you never used. but on the flipside if you have a car with problems its worth it. As i said its all luck lol...
