Hi all, I just picked up my car and will be getting some pictures up soon but a quick question. Is there a way to reset all the settings to the factory's default settings? I assumed the lease and he didn't reset anything. I'd like to start fresh if possible.

If anyone knows how to do this, I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks!!

I think a software update will reset just about everything. That was what happened to me when I last got an update in December '05.

Thanks jiio, I assume I'll have to take it to the dealer for that, guess we'll see how much it bothers me.

But, don't assume an update will be free, and an update isn't cheap. I'd say just do some hands on. You need to learn the settings, and how to set them anyway. What bother going back to the defaults? It is possible that your dealer can do some sort of global software reset, but I am not sure. I know that some things can be reset.

Wow Znod, I'm shocked that the sw upgrades aren't free... but then again, I guess it's just like Microsoft and their upgrades...

I've been playing around with the settings for a couple hours and I think I can change pretty much the things that I was first concerned with. Shouldn't be that much of an issue.. thanks for the feedback.

Znod failed to mention that software upgrades are not free if you suddenly wanted to have the latest and greatest version. In the case where a software update is free is when you take the car in to fix a "bug" or missing a feature. A feature you might not have and want is to have RDS enabled if it already isn't.

just make something up that the car sounds funny, drives funny, or something wrong with the electrical , they should be more than happy to give you a free software upgrade.

Errr... Don't listen to bmw4life or else you'll end up paying for the update.

No judgments, but I think it is bad Karma to mislead to get what one wants.
