It's the Americans who mess up letter "O" and number "0". Americans don't know what a "zero" is. All they know is "O" (oh)
What's your phone number?
Four, Oh, Eight... Seven, Six, Seven...One, Oh, Oh, One
That's how American express a zero here

Some nice tweaking! The new gearbox does appear to be significantly better than the 'old'!
535d 17% better! ![Think](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/think.gif)

The document claims that the 530i automatic will become 23.5% more efficient (average).
That's pretty amazing!
Now here's the new dilemma...
- the 530i (auto) is at 36.7 mpg (7.7 l/100kms)
- the 535d is at 40.4 mpg (7 l/100kms)
performance: 0-62 is the same for both (although the diesel has oodles more torque for overtaking)
cost: the diesel costs a lot more that the 530i (an extra ?10,000 here in Ireland)
Now that the economy figures have come so close together for these two engines, it has become harder to justify spending the extra cash on the diesel.
36.7 mpg (7.7 l/100kms) for that 3.0 petrol is not bad at all, it's ?10,000 cheaper than a 535d and it's a great engine too.
Now if the 535i were available I would be comparing that with the 535d instead and the comparison would be quite different.
I'm a big diesel fan but I have to admit I'm tempted...

In the real world I would of thought the 530d is a better comparison than the 535d? (Bit closer on price!)
I still think the diesel will have the better residuals but the higher purchase cost probably cancels out the advantage... I must admit I'd like the refinement of the petrol but I'd really miss that torque!
