ruf930, sorry to hear you have to go through this :'(. show them the pic doesn't help much. if they don't want to do anything, they can simply tell you the tech couldn't duplicate the problem but they actually think you are the one who opened the trunk and took the pic. just talk to the service mgr and/or the gm. they have to do something about it. you can even tell them because of this, some valuable items have been stolen in the past xx months .

It was funny at the beginning, but when it started opening with belongings inside, it wasn't funny anymore. Snowboard, a leather coat, a camera, etc... Once I found it opened when I left a Walmart and I had about $2,000 in military equipment inside.
Funny story: In my condo complex, teenagers knock on doors selling newspaper subscriptions... So the other day this kids knocks on my door... I swing it open really quick. WHAT!!! He looks at me with this really timid face and says, "Sorry, sir, but your trunk is open."
It happens at work, at the mall, happened at the dealer!... And once while my wife was driving. I'm taking the picture and the module info to the dealer again on Monday... If it happens after that, BMW NA is getting a nasty gram and some unwelcomed phone calls.
SP - meant tired instead of tried.

You aren't the only one. Ours does it too. It drives me crazy. I'm so afraid about the rain coming in. There are a lot of electronic modules in the trunk. We already had a leaky trunk cause an electrical fire. I can only imagine what an open trunk in a rainstorm would do.

That cannot be a software issue. Otherwise many more of our members would be reporting problems and we could trace it's fix. This is going to be an electomechanical problem. And that could cover a wide range of issues, some of which already suggested. Could be sensor, lack of shielding of sensor, bad receiver, weak latch(s). Some are far more likely than others. The dealer really needs to jump in there and get working on this. You should not have to defend yourself on this matter. Hell it's a safety matter.

[/quote]This is a great idea, and since I understand a short bungee cord is their next fix for the cupholder 5.3 upgrade, they may not even have to retool the factory for production of the trunk latch upgrade 1.1 bungee!!
