Is an extended warranty worth it?

Two months ago I bought a 2004 545i. First let me say that this has to be the greatest car ever made!!! Unless of course you have a higher series, but you know what I mean. The thing is, the 4 year warranty expires in 3 days and they are telling me it would be about 2100 to extend the maintenance part for up to 100,000 miles or another 2 years, which would be 2 years since it has 42,000 now. I am considering it but thought I would tap the minds of some experienced owners first. Thanks

I am a little confused about your question. Extended warranty and extended maintenance are separate issues and both expire after four years or 50,000 miles. Which one are you talking about?
You said you bought the car used. Is it a CPO, certified pre owned car? If it is the warranty is extended to six years and 100,000 miles.
How many miles do you plan on driving the car in the next two years?

The big cost driver on extended maintenance is brakes. You will only get two years out of the contract, so I would check if the brakes had been replaced before you bought the car under the standard maintenance. If they are fairly recent, the only thing you would be getting over the next 25K would be oil changes and maybe a few filters. Probably not worth $1600, unless you drive very hard or are coming up on a brake job due soon.

Extend Warranty is a must to drive these cars, they are a lot of fun to drive but also they are a LOT of trouble to keep. You spend more time in the shop then driving the car. Since I bought my 2004 545i (Two month ago), the car visited the dealer at least 10 times with major parts replaced, the only thing the dealer did not replace YET is the engine/tranny . Some people talk about the door seal problem, the dealer replaced all four seals on my car and added this stupid tape around the doors, a month later and the noise from the doors are back. It's Pathetic my wifes Acura TL is more quite and less trouble to drive, so my two cents is go get the warranty if you want to drive this car for a while or it is going to be pretty expensive to maintain.

I recently bought my stepson's 2005 545i w/48000 miles on it. Other than routine maintenance, the only repair issue he had was a front end alignment. I have a few non-critical issues with the iDrive (sometime slow to boot up and respond, arrow window pop up does not appear when map is displayed in the AssistWindow, Cd run on, all of which could be addressed by a Progman update. Since the car is running so well and there have been no problems, I am still debating whether to take it in for the update or not.
Since I now work from home, I am only putting about 7-8K miles per year on a car. With where the car stands on maintenance, I can't see getting either an extended maintenance agreement or extended warrant, not based on prices I have seen and been quoted.
