My Ride: E61 535d Apr 05. UK spec + Media Pack, Luxury Pack & Visibility Pack
Welcome.
Unfortunately the dealer is right. In the UK extended voice control is part of the media pack from '06 spec (Sept '05) onwards. I'm in the same situation. It can easily be retrofitted by a dealer, but get a few quotes, as prices vary a lot (a competitive price should be around ?250).
HTH
BTW - There is no need to shout.

The kit in parts only costs around ?40 (i have the part number somewhere) and can be fitted in about half an hour by anyone half-competent.

Thats' fantastic news. We've been to look at a good few used 535d sports with the media pack and the dealers were like- there's no way extended voice can be retrofitted. Mmm, hate them! Any chance of the part number pal?
Is it a tough job for a diy?

The part number for the kit is:
B84.64.0.396.162 and cost ?42.51+vat
It basically consists of the microphone, the cover for the microphone, the cable, a replacement menu/voice button for the idrive, some screws, cables ties and some sellotape.
If you look at one for my first post I posted up a PDF of the full NavPro retrofit instructions. This involves having to do the vice retrofit so if you can find them its listed there. Its quite easy to do.
Basically you just need to route a cable from the roof lining (comes away with 2 screws), down the side pillar, behind the glove box and to the back of the CCC/MASK unit.
Once done you'll need to get BMW to activate the Voice Activation from the idrive settings. Its a simple enough task and should only take a few mins but prob best just to ask them to do it "off the cuff" whilst your cars in for a service or something.
