Exhaust sizzle after shutdown

My petrol E60 makes an occasional sizzling sound from exhaust after shutting off the engine. The sizzling noise sounds like water hitting the hot exhaust or coming inside the exhaust itself. Any ideas on what is causing this?

My '03 530i did the same thing. I have not noticed it with my '08 535i.
