Thumbs up

I noticed that the exhaust that i have is bigger than the one on the 530i and bigger than the one on the 530d also (straight exhaust).

I have the M kit and i was wondering if that's got to do with the wider exhaust. I know it hasn't got anything to do with it, but a friend of mine told me it does. So if it doesn't why it is bigger than the one on the petrol or other diesels? because the higher volume of gas? How big is it in comparison to the one on the 545i?

And also i noticed it has one of the pipes closed by a flip cap. What's that for? Emissions? Better flow when accelerating hard? Also that friend told me that if i remove the cap than i would get a slightly lousier exhaust!

Can someone enlighten me?

Thanx

I'm pretty sure the M kit includes a larger exhaust...

The diesel engines have turbo's so I presume the gas flow faster...?

m kit doesn't include the other tips. It depends on what engine you have: 535d and 550 have the bigger exhaust tips

No bigger exhaust on the msport package. I wanted the 535d/550i exhaust but my dealer told me that they don't fit on my 530i.

And the reason it's bigger? What about the cap flip in on of the tips?

I don't know for the size; I thought it was simply a commercial/marketing argument because I can't beleive there is so much exhaust differences between 530d and 535d.

For the cap flip, I know that it is actually a device to reduce the noice when you drive gently and the exhaust are not so important. I can assure you that as you as you need it, the flip opens and you hear the difference.
I was last time chatting with friends, car stopped at home and decided during the discussion, to show the engine noice by pressing firmly on the throttle. My girls friend, who was also chatting with girls 2m behind the car, felt the hot stream and was quite surprised. After checking, when doing this manoeuver, we stated that the flip obviously opens!!! I made some try to reduce the pressure on the throttle until the flip stays closed but I couldn't get a stable rev value to which it opens. There must be other parameters to take into account in obtaining the right exhaust gaz pressure which will open the flip...

I'm personnally quite please to drive silently when my engine is warm and see people surprised that a "d" car is so silent.

These engineers are simply great. This car is simply perfect! It has to be said!
