I have a 2007 550i with SMG with 78,000 miles on it. The car would not start and I needed to jump start the car. However, after replacing the battery with a OEM DEKA battery, I noticed that the gear indicator light remains lit after I turn off the ignition. The light stays on even after locking the car. Does anyone know what the cause might be?

If you only take short trips in your car, you should look into getting a battery tender. Member Juris335 has a brand new one for sale.

I had short trip excuses from the Dealers too many times. They even said the battery was good six months prior to my recent fix! And I have experienced the exact problem you described. I even hooked the battery tender every day to avoid issues! And a lot of shops were saying my battery was good with "recharging remmendations".

Until my CCC went out recently, I had to change it, along with a new battery, IPS, and a negative battery cable. After that, I have no more issues like that anymore! The fix was done on 4/14/11 and I am loving the feeling of having a dependable car!

In summary, if your battery is the issue and it's more than two years old, I would go ahead and change the battery, along with a "new IPS". It costed me $850 to buy a remanufactured CCC and I think the bad battery was the main culprit! Or was it the CCC that drain my battery from the beginning??? As for trouble shooting, first, try taking out the navigation and CD discs when you don't drive your car; see if that could be the link to your problem.

Anyways, I think I am now a battery expert after three replacements since I bought the car brand new. LOL

Either your battery or IBS is bad. Something is definitely draining your battery and if you have a good IBS, at least it will shut down your car to allow it to have enough juice to start the next time you get in it.

Good luck to you!

Daniel

P.S
I am not a BMW expert. I hope my experiences will help with your trouble shooting...

Just noticed your subject line and the content of your message. It's kinda confusing. Do you still have excessive drains after the battery is replaced? Anyways...
