Today it finally happen. The Finnish car taxes legislation is renewed as of next year.
All is now depending on CO2 emission, both the car tax and the yearly car tax.
Largest changes where make on the cartax, that has been 28 % plus 22 % turnover tax on the tax
,
so all in all about + 34 %, also on the extras.
The brake even point goes around 180 g/km but the tax is very aggressive so a 520dA will get a over 10 %
tax reduce but a 550iA (246 g/km) will get a over 5 % tax increase.
In Euros this will make a big difference.
The 318d with only 119 g/km of CO2's will get 14 % tax discount.
The BMW engine tech has made such improvements in last years so this will help BMW sales over here.
I.e. my current 525iA with the M54B25 engine has the same CO2's as the current LCI 550iA!
(PS. This just out today, so some maths may be inaccurate, but in the ballpark we are).

Will someone driving a car with emmisions over 180g/km before the new rule also be affected ? that would be unfair, and cripple the used car market...

This is on newly purchased cars, right ?

Life is not fair, didn't you know?
The prise on used cars did go down TODAY, depending on CO2's - a lot, or only some.
Some small cars even gained some.
All in all it's a overall 17% tax reduction on cars!
Our Government gave this example:
A '08 Volvo V70 2.0d will be 5,500 Euros cheaper in '08
A '08 Volvo V70 3.2 will be 5,500 Euros more expensive in '08.
Porsches and old X5's, 750i's etc will get the yearly car tax raise only in 2010 or so.
It will be interesting to see what I have to pay for my new 520dA

PS. Sorry Veight. Yoda says me non... Star Wars?

I suppose this is mature fun?
Im sorry, wasn't made at an attempt to poke fun. I really like Yoda speak.
Based on the fact that I only know english I have no basis for poking fun at someone that knows at least two other languages.
Really wasn't intended as an insult.
