DONT PUT PURE ETHANOL IN YOUR CAR

i assume you are asking about octane. use 93. why not. you drive a bmw. dont like the 10-20 cent price difference per gallon? drive a 86 chrysler lebaron.

i am sure this thread will be full of people debating cost/benefit, octane levels, particular gas stations. just use premium. why not?

When gas price was $4 over, I mix 3/4 tank of 93 & 1/4 tank of 87.

Pretty much when you are @ 3/4 tank, fill up full w/ 87 then next fill up back full tank of 93 until you are down to 3/4 of tank then fill up full 87 and etc etc.

Right now I use 93 w/ Techron

91 is the lowest octane for 545 w/ max of 10% ethanol blend.

BMW recommends 91 octane.... The less ethanol the better, although I think now 10% ethanol is pretty much everywhere by law. BMW has stated (in my manual) that ethanol content of 10% and below will not void the warranty (Implying that above 10% it may void the warranty), so be sure to put only quality brands of fuel in the car as you will be less likely to get a blend with nore than 10% that way.

Engine will operate OK on octane levels down to 87, but will not give the best mileage or performance on the lower octanes. You will not damage your engine by using octane levels between 87 and 91.

These are the recommendations for my e60. You should check your owner's manual for your model.

I just read that methanol was bad for direct-injection engines. How is he doing this?

It's about ?4 per gallon or $6. Don't know what's the average wage in US is at but in the UK ?1 per litter is just not nice..
